FineLine's Smooth Vs Operation Transforms Hospital

Minimising disruption to day-to-day patient care was a key requirement of Sheerframe approved fabricator FineLine Windows during its £330,000 window refurbishment programme at a major Brighton hospital.

The Kent firm produced more than 500 Sheerframe vertically sliding sash windows, plus a further 300 tilt and turn windows, and installed them at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. The contract awarded to FineLine involved replacement windows for the hospital's Charles Barrie and Jubilee buildings with the work forming a key part of the renovation of these ward buildings.

Working closely with the building contractor and hospital managers, a programme was developed to ensure the maximum number of beds would remain in-use during the window replacement work. A post-contract review of how successfully this worked showed that FineLine performed extremely well as part of this complex programme of work.

By Using the Sheerframe PVC vertically sliding sash, restoring the visual appeal of the original Victorian hospital buildings was easily achievable, with tilt and turn Sheerframe windows complementing this traditional style in the more modern elements of the building.

In addition to transforming the internal environment by reducing draughts and condensation and improving all-round aesthetics, the new PVC frames allow the hospital to reduce its maintenance demands during the long service life of the windows and should make a contribution towards improved energy efficiency.

Simon Foster, Commercial Sales Manager of FineLine Windows says, "With the Royal Sussex County Hospital's location right on the coast high performance PVC windows provide the perfect solution. Frequent maintenance work where wards have to be put out of action is something that a busy healthcare facility like this cannot afford, which is why the intelligent design of the Sheerframe vertically sliding sash in particular should prove priceless in the long term."

Wandle Partner With FineLine On Half A Million Pound Surrey Quays Project

Kent-based Sheerframe window-maker FineLine has recently completed £500,000 refurbishment contract for Wandle Housing Association. The project, part of a long-term partnering arrangement between the two organisations, has resulted in major improvements to the quality of life for tenants in a housing block in Rotherhithe.

The 4 month protect, which FineLine completed ahead of schedule, has seen the replacement of poorly performing timber windows in four accommodation blocks and adjoining town houses in a horseshoe configuration at Christopher Close in Surrey Quays, Rotherhithe.

Although the accommodation was built just over ten years ago, the windows had proved draughty and impacted adversely on tenants' heating bills. The need for scaffolding during repainting had added to the maintenance costs and influenced the decision to opt for PVC replacements where future maintenance requirements would be minimal.

Working with chartered surveyors Jensen Tyrell, FineLine installed high performance co-extruded double-glazed Sheerframe 6000 windows throughout. The casements styling also featured arched head windows in Upper floors of the five stored blocks.

FineLine and Wandle HA have been partnering for around four years and this is the latest of a series of window replacement programmes successfully completed by the Strood window makers.
